hoje, a conversa é com a Joana e o Pedro Dixo, irmãos, que juntamente com o pai, António, dão alma a um dos pioneiros e mais bonitos hostels da cidade - o Dixo's Oporto Hostel.

O Dixo's Hostel nasceu em 2011 e fica bem na zona turística da cidade, a um passo da Ribeira e em frente ao Palácio da Bolsa, num edifício antigo e recuperado, com uma magnífica vista sobre o Porto. já lá tinha estado no ano passado para fazer uma reportagem (que podem reler aqui), mas ainda bem que esta minha série foi atrasando, pois assim voltei, para conhecer o Pedro, que na altura estava em África; pude subir à varanda e usufruir das vistas (no ano passado chovia a sério) e confirmar de perto a concretização de mais um projecto da família, que na altura ainda era um esboço, e que passado um ano já é mesmo realidade - a recente abertura, em Janeiro deste ano, e mesmo em frente ao hostel, do Dixo's Kitchen - um restaurante de sushi.
mas os projectos da família não se ficam por aqui....:) é esperar para ver, pois vontade não falta de continuarem a espalhar o nome Dixo por aquela zona do Porto. sim, porque, a zona é da maior importância para a família. ou era ali, ou não era:)

Dixo's Hostel was born in 2011, and is located in the typical Porto, close to Ribeira and with Palácio da Bolsa in front and it is a beautiful restored old house with a marvellous view. I had been there last year (see post here), but I am glad I came back this year, so I could meet Pedro (last year he was in Africa); I could climb to the nice balcony and appreciate the views (last time it was raining a lot) and could confirm the opening of another family project - which last year was only in paper - the Dixo's Kitchen, a sushi restaurant.
but family projects will not stop here...:) we must wait and see, because the will is to spread the name Dixo around the area. and yes, the area is for them of most importance.

"queríamos abrir um hostel porque o Pedro já tinha trabalhado num, fora de Portugal, e tinha gostado muito do conceito. e em 2008, quando começamos a pensar no projecto, quase não haviam hostels com este perfil no Porto. a ideia de ser um projecto familiar também nos agradou, pois nós damo-nos todos bem.

a zona, tinha de ser esta. andámos cerca de 3 meses à procura de espaço e nada nos satisfazia. esta rua é a pérola da cidade, era mesmo aqui que queríamos e estivémos quase para desistir por não encontrarmos o que queríamos. até que vimos esta casa e dissémos - é aqui!"

"the idea of an hostel came from the fact that Pedro had already worked in one, outside Portugal, and had loved the experience. and in 2008, when we started thinking of the project, there was nothing of the kind in Porto. the fact that it was a family business was also ok for us, we get along very well. Pedro spent some time abroad, but now he is back, and we divide our time between the hostel and the restaurant. it is a lot of work but it is so great to see our projects growing...
the area had to be this one. we spent about 3 months without finding anything. this street is the jewel of the city, and we wanted the hostel to be in this street. we almost gave up searching, but finally we saw this place and we said - it's here! "

Um sítio ou local de eleição no Porto?
- O Jardim das Virtudes, pela tranquilidade e pela vista que me enche o coração e me faz adorar ainda mais o Porto. E porque é o único lugar onde tenho tempo para ler.
O melhor que o Porto tem?
- O Porto tem de melhor a sua gente. O bairrismo. Os encontros sem hora e data marcada. O rio e o mar. E é no Porto que estão os meus projectos de vida - o hostel e o restaurante. É muito bom sentir que nascemos cá e que fazemos parte do crescimento da cidade.
Um sonho?
Que o empreendorismo não me sufoque, e que a minha vida seja mais do que negócios. Uma casa cheia de gargalhadas de crianças.

Your favourite place in Porto?
- Jardim das Virtudes, because it is so quiet and has a wonderful view that makes me love Porto even more. And because it is the only place in Porto where I can find time to read.
The best you find in Porto?
- its people. and the "localism". the gatherings that happen without pre-defined appointment. The river and the sea.
And it is in Porto I find my life projects, the hostel and the restaurant!
A dream?
- not being overwhelmed by the "entrepreneurship", and that my life can be fulfilled with something more than business. A house full of children laughing.

- O Gazela :) Um snack-bar de cachorros que fica na Praça da Batalha.
O melhor que o Porto tem?
- O Porto é a cidade onde nasci, onde faço a minha vida actual e onde tenho a minha família. Vivi um ano em África e quis voltar, não me adaptei. e os meus projectos estão no Porto. Não fazia sentido construir um hostel e um restaurante em qualquer outro sítio, tinha de ser no Porto, a na Rua Mouzinho da Silveira :)
Um sonho?
ter um tasco. um verdadeiro tasco daqueles que aindem não existem cá. e depois reformar-me aos 40:)

The best you find in Porto?
- I was born here, and it is in Porto I live now and where I have my family. I lived one year in Africa and came back, I did not like it. and all my projects are now in Porto. It wouldn't make sense to build a hostel or a restaurant anywhere outside Porto, and at Rua Mouzinho da Silveira:)
A dream?
to have a "tasca" (chop-house). a real one, that we still do not have in Porto. and get retired by 40:)
